Rumriver Art Center Presents a New Art Gallery Show Opening in the 21 Step Gallery.
Anoka, MN - The 21 Step Gallery of Rumriver Art Center is presenting Inked, Ripped, Glued: The Processing of Creating Light Within the Dark by artist Angie Renee. The public is invited to attend the show opening on Saturday, February 8th from 2 pm - 4 pm. Individuals are also invited to meet the artist on Wednesday, February 12th between 11 am - 1 pm and to Renee’s Artist Talk on Saturday, February 22nd at 11:30 am. All events are free.
Renee has been a maker of things for as long as she can remember. After graduating from UW–River Falls, she spent over 20 years as a clay artist. The tactile connection to clay and the surprises each kiln firing held kept her captivated—until an allergy forced her to leave that medium behind. During the pandemic, Renee began exploring a variety of artistic practices and found her way to printmaking. Like clay, printmaking holds a mystery that keeps her coming back.
Inked, Ripped, Glued: The Process of Creating Light Within the Dark delves into processing the deep emotions stirred by the times we live in. Renee is a deeply empathetic person, and her art serves as a balm for the challenging emotions life brings. Through this series, she channels her frustrations, fears, and hopes, discovering light amidst the dark.
This body of work is entirely process-driven. Renee uses India ink in a playful yet meditative process: dripping, spraying, and pressing ink-saturated pages together. The result is vibrant, unpredictable patterns—echoes of the magic found in clay. Next comes ripping. "There’s something freeing about ripping paper," she explains. "It’s an act of surrender, letting the paper tear how it will. It also helps me work through anger and frustration with the world." The final step is gluing—a meditative, intuitive process. Each artwork emerges as a testament to transformation, reflecting her search for light amid chaos and uncertainty.
She says. "I hope these works bring you peace, joy, and love where you need them most."
The exhibition will open February 8th and run until March 1st, 2025.
