About this Event
A&H invites lifetime learners like you to discuss fascinating topics anchored in Central Florida history, arts, and culture. New themes are presented monthly by visiting subject matter experts. ✨
Join us for an exploration of artists who discovered their creative passions late in life and achieved remarkable success. This lecture, led by Exhibitions Manager Katie Benson, Chief Curator Dan L. Hess, and guest artist Esther Phelps, will highlight notable figures—including our own founder André Smith, who established the Maitland Art Center at the age of 57. Our guest Esther Phelps is an encaustic artist who began her artistic journey at the age of 60.
For more information about our current gallery exhibition LOSS:
St. Petersburg, Florida based artist Mike Massaro is a sculptor and mixed media installation artist who poetically manipulates everyday construction materials and found objects to meet his desired end. His solo sculptural installation LOSS is an abstract representation exploring nuanced themes of change, loss and rebirth. As the viewer navigates the physical objects and lighting, they will be provided with a contemplative space in which they can process their own personal experiences of the subjects. Massaro was awarded his BFA from the University of Tampa.
This evening event is presented during our monthly Last Wednesday hours, when we open our gallery free of charge with a cash bar from 5:30-8pm.
