About this Event

Please join us on the evening of July 18th for an Everybody I Know is Growing Old Too Quickly exhibition artist talk. Doors open at 6pm.Artists Emma Ortiz, JonLouis Gonzalez, and Justyna Kisielewicz will be present and provide an insight into their work, careers, and personal anecdotes reflecting on the theme of the exhibition. The talk will be moderated by the exhibition curators, Ross Karlan and Sophia Ballesteros.Everybody I Know is Growing Old Too Quickly explores the realm of childhood nostalgia. Each artist, whether through evocative memories, playful renditions of amusements, or whimsical expression of forms, offers a poignant and engaging exploration of our inner child. With a blend of somber reflection and gestural play, the exhibition navigates the complexities of yearning for innocence, both in technique and subject matter. Through an emotive journey that embraces a spectrum of feelings, these artists confront the universal experience of longing for the purity of youth.

EMMA ORTIZ is an artist born and based in Miami. After receiving her BFA at Parsons School of Design, she moved back home and began painting orchids in the backyard as studies. These studies evolved into a practice in which she treats each piece as a diary entry, referencing matters of nature and images from imagination. With a deep awareness of the present moment and creating work intuitively, Emma uses oil paint to tell stories of mood, connection and trusting yourself. Emma has spent the last four years working with private collectors, galleries and has partnered with companies such as Anthropologie and Sweetgreen to further share her voice.

JONLOUIS GONZALEZ is a Puerto Rican artist based in Miami, Florida. The artist sees his artistic practice as its own interconnected universe, one that continuously evolves with each body of work he creates. The iconography—derived from the landscape of his upbringing in the Space Coast of Florida while personal, is equally representative and observant of everyday human experiences and social challenges. Resulting in an introspective reality that is both wistful and inquisitive. Gonzalez’s works recognized by his unique characters move between modes of creation and observation through painting, sculpting, and installation works. Using elements of visual culture that tell the story of social beings in a melting pot of global influence beyond time.

JUSTYNA KISIELEWICZ is a contemporary artist based in Miami, FL. Her paintings are aesthetically camp, cheeky, and lively with unexpected color combinations. She was dubbed the “pop culture obsessed, rebellious artist from Poland” and the “princess of pop culture” by Elle, an international fashion and lifestyle magazine. Several paintings by the artist are in the permanent collection of the National Museum in Gdansk, Poland. In 2018 Justyna was granted a Green Card for Individuals of Extraordinary Ability––also known as the Genius Visa––by the USA for being within the top 1% of her artistic field. She received a Master in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland with an emphasis in painting and textiles.Everybody I Know is Growing Old Too Quickly will be on view from June 15 through July 27, 2024 with an Artist Talk on July 18th from 6 - 8 pm.
