In their art, McCallum & Tarry bring underrepresented communities to the forefront, using photography, video, performative sculpture, and self-portraiture to create works that are often confrontational, emotional, and personal. The artists will discuss their works which are featured in MW Gallery’s current exhibition "From Her Perspective: Intersections of Gender and Race", and the evolution of their artistic practices as a collaborative team and as individuals. Each hailing from New York City, NY, McCallum & Tarry have both worked and exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
This talk is presented in conjunction with the exhibition "From Her Perspective: Intersections of Gender and Race", which features paintings, photography, sculpture, and works on paper by artists who explore Blackness, womanhood, and the female experience through their art. Artists in the exhibit include Nanette Carter, Elizabeth Catlett, Renee Cox, Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry, Zanele Muholi, Wangechi Mutu, Alison Saar, Lorna Simpson, Mickalene Thomas, and Carrie Mae Weems among others. Through the array of approaches to their visual work, the artists in this exhibit illuminate the possibilities for representing multifaceted identities. "From Her Perspective: Intersections of Gender and Race" will be on view through August 24, 2024.
