About this Event

Join us for an engaging artist talk and Q&A with artist Leah Gordon, author and image collector Stephen Ellcock and actor Maxine Peake, as they discuss Leah's solo exhibition .
The talk will explore the themes and creative process behind the exhibition, reflecting on the lasting impact of the enclosure acts and the loss of commons, and asking how histories of evictions, loss of rights, quashed rebellions and widespread displacement continue to shape the systems and politics we live with today.
The discussion will also consider the exhibition’s wider context, which includes a special display curated by Stephen Ellcock and objects from the Museum of English Rural Life’s collection.
This event will feature a panel talk and Q&A, a guided tour of the exhibition with artists and curators, followed by an after-party with music and drinks.
**Please note: Due to popular demand, we’ve released a second round of tickets. The ‘In-Person Live Stream’ ticket will let you watch the talk live on a big screen in the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum’s covered court, before joining us for the exhibition tour and after party.
Presented as part of , a Meadow Arts exhibition with the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, in association with Coventry Biennial.
Monument to the Vanquished Peasant will take place at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum (3 October 2025 – 25 January 2026).
The fifth Coventry Biennial will take place from the 3 October 2025 – 25 January 2026, across Coventry and Warwickshire. Coventry Biennial 2025 is generously funded through Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants.
