The Unraveled series explores a sense of identity, intimacy, and reflection on growing up in the rural South without fitting into expected boxes. Working in oil, Cam uses loose brushwork, texture, and subtle symbolism throughout their work. They often crop the body into fragments; a torso, a hand, a small detail that feels both ordinary and charged. Color, texture, and gesture carry the weight of the emotion.
Their goal is not to give a clear answer, but to sit in the space between tradition and self, restraint and softness. The works carry traces of memory, personal experience, and quiet moments of reflection. They want the work to feel vulnerable and tender, but also layered and complex, reflecting the contradictions and nuances of lived experience.
About the artist:
Cam Denler is a painter and curator based in Shreveport, Louisiana. They earned their BFA in Studio Art from Henderson State University in 2023 and currently serve as Art Curator at The AgoraBorealis, highlighting artists from the Northwest Louisiana region. Their work has been exhibited across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Georgia, including receiving Best in Show at Henderson State’s Annual Student Competitive in 2022. Through their paintings, Cam explores identity, intimacy, and the quiet tensions of personal experience.
