Lisandra draws on subjects from her hometown Hatillo, Puerto Rico, know as a center for milk production. Her paintings of red cows with wings merge representation and fantasy to illustrate homesickness for her home country.
They are a favorite subject for her because of the town in which she grew up in Puerto Rico, which is a center for the country’s milk production. “I was homesick, so I started drawing cows,” said Brown. “I wanted to fly away to home, so I gave my cows wings, but I was in love with my ex-husband who’s home is here in Shreveport, so I made the cows red to reflect love, crawfish, the red river, and spicy food (Louisiana),” added Lisandra.
Di Liberto's art is diverse, however, and ranges from still-life objects to fish that are endowed with legs similar to the wings on her cows and stylized human figures portraying women in fluid poses and muted hues.
In 2014, Louisiana Life Magazine named Di Liberto one of eight "Louisianians of The Year", as someone who has had great success in her own world. Di Liberto was also recently chosen as one of 13 regional artists whose works were exhibited as a part of "The Latino Art Project" in Little Rock, Arkansas to celebrate Latino culture.
Di Liberto didn’t start out as an artist, but studied marketing at the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, Recinto de San Germán. She does come from artistic roots however! Her father is Peruvian and draws and other Italian family members paint and sculpt in Peru, so she eventually gravitated toward the study of art and attended Escuela Nacional Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes del Perú in Santana!
