The Henry Ford invites internationally renowned artists to spend a week in the Greenfield Village Glass Shop each summer. These artists in residence collaborate with our glassblowers, creating unique objects that demonstrate their distinctive approach to glassmaking for our visitors. Each artist creates one work of art destined for The Henry Ford’s collection. James Mongrain’s artistry centers around Venetian glass. A self-proclaimed beneficiary of skills learned from Italian masters, he has spent thousands of hours in his studio making goblets and other vessels. Established as a glass artist working in a singular style, his work is closely associated with Venetian glass, often presented in motifs of traditional forms, fantastic animals and elaborate rigaree, also referred to ornamental raised bands on glass.
