About this Event

PERRY + CARLSON of Mt. Vernon presents Martyrs & Myths, March 1 to March 31, a solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Kate Geddes, marking her first Washington State showing beyond remote Orcas Island. This highly anticipated exhibition is also the debut of her Disaster of Wars series—an evocative body of work in response to recent tragedies, exploring the tension between destruction and transcendence, mortality and rebirth.
Geddes works in the realm of mythology, creating large-scale paintings that begin as intensely personal and cathartic, then evolve into universal meditations on fear, desire, and transformation. After a successful career in San Francisco, California, Geddes retreated to her studio on remote Orcas Island, quietly creating hundreds of works over the last decade while only selling to private collectors. This is her first exhibit outside Orcas Island in the Pacific Northwest.
Widely regarded as one of the most uniquely talented painters in the region, Geddes states, "I draw from the mystical and emotional intensity of Goya, Grunewald, and Francis Bacon. They portray startling, shocking images, yet they have great tenderness and beauty. It is this tradition to which I want to add my voice. "
A rare opportunity to experience the work of a one-of-a-kind artist, Martyrs & Myths is not to be missed.
