About this Event
Ruchika Nambiar is a miniaturist, book artist and writer who produces experimen- tal, interactive, multimedia stories. An alumnus of RISD, her work ranges from artist books and graphic memoirs to dioramas and interactive social-media narratives. Also a researcher, she writes on themes of cultural philosophy and media studies and has recently finished a new book Memes for the Soul. She is the creator of The Dollhouse Project that has been featured by Architectural Digest, India Today, and more. She currently teaches at RISD under the department of Illustration.
In this presentation, Ruchika will primarily talk about her miniature art and how she uses it to tell interactive stories. She will talk about The Dollhouse Project (2017-pres- ent), a miniature storyverse where a tiny version of herself lives her own parallel life. Her miniature alter ego, Little R, will also accompany her to this talk, along with her recently constructed ‘Travelling Home’ – a miniature apartment built inside a suit- case. Showcasing some of her recent miniature projects, Ruchika will discuss the var- ious processes and techniques she uses to craft them. She will also briefly showcase some of her other experimental storytelling projects across graphic novels, interactive artist books and more – some of which she will bring along with her for show-and- tell.
