The Daniel Island Historical Society and Charleston Museum are teaming up to dig into local history. Join us on Saturday, September 27, at the Daniel Island Recreation Center as we present an “Artifact Show & Tell” from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, featuring local archaeologists John Fisher of Charleston Museum, Jeff Sherard of Brockington & Associates, and Dr. Luke Pecoraro of Drayton Hall. Bring any artifacts or items of possible historical significance you have found in your exploration of the island or other parts of the Lowcountry and our expert team will help you identify them and the time period they represent. No treasures to bring? No problem! We will have lots of local artifacts on display for you to see! THIS EVENT IS FREE.Plus, kids and teens here’s your chance to become an archaeologist for day!! We invite all budding archaeologists to take part in a KIDS’ ARCHAEOLOGY WORKSHOP for ages 6-12, from 11 am to 12 pm, and our TEENS’ ARCHAEOLOGY WORKSHOP from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Both sessions will be run by Cara Bradford, one of The Charleston Museum's educators. Examine potsherds, glassware, bone, and metal to unlock the secrets of Charleston’s past. Solve the puzzle of a broken object, conduct artifact analysis, and learn all about the field of archaeology. This program will cover different types of archaeology as well as the methods used by archaeologists. Participants will have a chance to get hands-on with history and natural history. Due to limited space, reservations are required. Cost is $5 per attendee to cover cost of materials.
