Looking closely in Spring: observing where our food comes from - in watercolour and oil pastel at Westraven Community Garden
About this Event

Through the act of drawing/painting from life, we begin to notice the life around us that we perhaps wouldn’t have noticed before. It can be quite meditative and is a great way to bring new ideas into your creativity or just relax.

Over the day, we'll be looking closely and getting to know the plants that provide food at West Raven.

After getting ourselves creatively warmed up and in the flow, we will spend time throughout the workshop looking at shapes, scale, mark making and more using a mix of watercolour and oil pastels to create our own artistic interpretations of the food sources in the garden.

This isn’t a workshop where we will be focusing on how to draw/paint something accurately - we will be focusing on enjoying the process rather than focusing on the final outcome! It will be a day for you to relax and get in the creative zone.

About Emily

Emily is a local artist who is deeply inspired by the natural world and our connection to it. Drawing is a central part of Emily’s approach to making work. She strongly believes in inspiring creative confidence in others.

About the day

Please do check the weather and dress accordingly. We can work undercover if it rains. We will be taking a lunch break, so please bring a packed lunch. Also snacks and water can be great as a day of creating can be tiring for your brain!

Suitable for beginners (and those who tell themselves they can’t draw!), 16+

All materials provided.
