About this Event

Join Feia Studio and Abigail Ogilvy Gallery for a multi-sensory night of artist talks, wine, and a creative and curated selection of hors d’oeuvres tailored specifically to the artworks on view.

Gallery Director Kaylee Hennessey will lead a tour of our current exhibition, Place Setting. We will be joined by all five artists on view: Luke Forsyth, Katharine Konietzko, Tara Lewis, Thomas Martinez Pilnik, and Amanda Rowan; who will each give a brief talk about their practice. Every talk will be accompanied by a unique food and wine experience, conceptualized and created by Feia Studio, a new creative endeavor by husband duo Jake Cavallo and Thomas Martinez Pilnik (one of our Place Setting artists!).

About the exhibition:

Place Setting is a group exhibition featuring five artists working in painting, ceramics, and photography. Place Setting illustrates five unique perspectives on collaboration with local landscapes, cultural memories, and figures; each piece in the exhibition takes the viewer to a specific setting reminiscent of Los Angeles, its surrounding scenery, and the industries that dominate this major world stage. A double entendre, Place Setting also nods to the dinner party, an intimate form of community engagement that strengthens connections, and more recently, has provided a source of comforting interactions in our life after the pandemic.

About Feia Studio:

Art | Design | Pedagogy | Community | Culinary

Founded by husband-duo Thomas Martinez Pilnik and Jake Cavallo, Feia celebrates failure, brings people together, and curates beautiful spaces with unconventional features

Feia, literally meaning Ugly in Portuguese (and in Spanish spelled Fea), is more than just an insult. It expresses curiosity, intrigue, excitement, novelty, beauty, disgust, and everything in between.

Pilnik - raised in London by Brazilian parents - grew up hearing the phrase “Ai, Que Coisa Feia!” throughout his childhood. It could describe a reaction his mum had while he bit his nails, a scraggle-toothed dog walking down the street, or even a stunningly opulent piece of art sitting at the Tate Modern.

We aim to capture that all with Feia. Through events, dinners, workshops, exhibitions, and more, we will surprise, delight, and sometimes even disgust. That is the whole point after all.
