Kicking off a new series of illustrated lectures, Master Carver Simon Smith will share insights into his inspiration and work over 30 years of carving designs in stone and marble. His commissions include the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and the National Trust among others, as well as many private individuals. Doors open 6.30pm, lecture at 7pm followed by Q&A and refreshments - all welcome for a fascinating and inspiring evening. Tickets are £12 each or £32 for the series of three lectures.
This year's series also features stained glass and pottery, all ancient crafts that would have been important to the monks of the great medieval Hyde Abbey, who founded St Bartholomew's Church in 1110. 16th May - Helen Whittaker, stained glass artist, who collaborated with David Hockney for the Queen’s Window installed in Westminster Abbey in 2018. 13th June - Prue Cooper, member of the Craft Potters Association, who makes slipware dishes for use and enjoyment, with designs that celebrate friendship and the sharing of simple pleasures.
