Isabel Rojas-Williams, an esteemed art historian and curator, led the Mural Conservancy Los Angeles as Executive Director from 2011 to 2016. Arriving in Los Angeles in 1973 after escaping Pinochet's regime in Chile, she became a fervent advocate for the city's vibrant mural movement. Serving as Mayor Villaraigosa’s liaison to heritage committees, Isabel championed the representation of Latino, Asian, and African American communities. Isabel had a major role in helping write the mural ordinance signed by Mayor Garcetti in 2013, which lifted the 2002 mural moratorium in Los Angeles. With a graduate degree in art history from California State University Los Angeles, she has made significant scholarly contributions, notably through her master's thesis on the "Los Angeles Street Mural Movement, 1930-2009.” Recognized for her dedication, Isabel has received accolades such as being named one of the influential "Latinas in the Arts" by the Los Angeles City Council and an "Impact Maker to Watch" by City Impact Lab in 2016. She remains actively involved in shaping discourse and curation, notably contributing to exhibitions within the Getty Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles/Latin American series.
