Please join us at the Hyland Design Group pop-up gallery in downtown San Carlos for the opening reception of our latest exhibition, featuring works by local artist Yucali.
Yucali is the talented artist behind the new ‘Blossoms International Friendship Mural’ on the side of our building, so we’re excited to host an exhibition showcasing even more of her art!
Entry is free, and refreshments will be available. Feel free to drop in any time during our opening reception party! The reception runs from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Sunday, March 30th, 2025.

The exhibition will remain on display between March 31st and June 13th, 2025. Our space is open Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm (appointments preferred) and on weekends from 10am - 5pm (by appointment only). Please contact Nicole to schedule your appointment - [email protected]

About Yucali
“My work is a meditation on movement, fluidity, and the quiet harmony between nature and human experience.”
Born and raised in Japan, Yucali has spent much of her adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned her degree in Practice of Art from UC Berkeley, receiving the departmental citation. Her work is influenced by her upbringing in Japan, travels in Europe and Asia, time spent living in Paris, and mentorship under artist Jane Rosen.
Based at Art Bias in San Carlos, Yucali explores movement, balance, and cultural connection through her Zen Garden Series, Zen Quest Series, and Sakura Series and others. She integrates the fluidity of Wushu and calligraphy into her art, creating dynamic compositions inspired by Zen philosophy, the world literature and Nature.
Beyond her studio practice, Yucali is deeply involved in community art and teaching, including mural initiatives, teaching sessions with One Step Beyond and HIP Housing, and mentoring young artists. As the lead mentor for the Art Bias Creative Youth Mentorship Program (now in its third year), she guides and works with Sequoia High School’s selected mentees also working with other fellow artists.
Her recent public project mural: ～Blossoms～ International Friendship Mural (celebrating international friendship between the two sister cities San Carlos, CA and Omura, Nagasaki of Japan) is located in San Carlos downtown, on Sister City Lane and San Carlos Ave. The ribbon cutting ceremony with representatives from Japan and San Carlos is scheduled on May 15th(Thurs), 2025 4-6pm in front of the mural.
