About this Event
FLORENCIA GECHTER
After graduating as a graphic designer from the University of Buenos Aires, Florencia Gechter initiated her training journey by joining the workshop led by María Luisa Manassero. She also pursued a range of courses that significantly contributed to her development at the Parsons School of Design in New York. In addition, she ventured into photoengraving at Lucrecia Urbano's Zona Imaginaria workshop, became a part of the School of Projects led by Laura Messing, and attended Projecto 8, overseen by Francisca Kweitel. In recent years, she has been actively participating in Sergio Bazán's workshop and art clinics.
Her exhibitions include a solo show at the Standard Bank Foundation titled "Urban Chronicles"; "Dos Caras" at Otto Galería and "Bordes" at the Argentine Embassy in Washington DC.
The direct connection between her roles as a graphic designer and as an artist is quite evident in the artwork. In "Bordes", Florencia has a unique rhythm, defined by the materials, colors, monochrome brushstrokes and work processes in which it is involved. The silhouettes that characterize its landscapes recall our first artistic expressions and adopt anthropomorphic forms, discernible among an infinite number of shapes. Her work seems to believe in universal energy. The bodily expressions, the life cycles, the terrestrial and the ancestral, are combined in works that mimic a primitive essence.
There are paper cuts, crossing outs and overlapping shapes to try to communicate something that has been silenced. Her collages evoke the passage of time and the indecipherable traces of a life lived. The exhibition invites you to explore the artist's experiments, where the represented elements intertwine, disappear or reappear with her brush strokes.
