About this Event
Art of Tabla — The Language of Rhythm
Tabla is one of the most expressive and melodic percussion instruments ever created. Its tonal range spans from subtle microtonal textures to flowing, water-like resonance and deep, pulsating bass lines that move like a heartbeat.
In this immersive workshop, participants will explore the Art of Tabla through:
- Mnemonic Syllables (Bols): Learning rhythm as a spoken language.
- Mind–Body Awareness: Developing left/right brain independence through movement and coordination.
- Touch Sensitivity: Discovering how subtle changes in hand and finger placement shape tone and expression.
- Relaxation & Flow: Entering meditative states through rhythmic and melodic entrainment.
We approach tabla as both a musical and spiritual practice — integrating traditional teachings of Śabda (divine sound) and Nāda Yoga (the yoga of vibration).
This workshop is guided by Siddhartha, artist and innovator dedicated to preserving the cultural roots of Indian percussion while exploring its modern evolution through instruments like Khartal, Electrobones, and Speedbag Drumming. His approach blends ancient rhythmic wisdom with contemporary creativity, offering a deeply transformative experience through sound, movement, and meditation.
