Forces combine for a night of improvisational jazz!Grammy-nominated Art Lande is considered one of the premiere improvisational jazz pianists today. He began piano at age 4, studied at Williams College & moved to San Francisco in 1969. He has mostly carved out his own singular path throughout his career, taking the innovations of Bill Evans several steps further. Art Lande and Mark Miller have performed and recorded together for more than forty years since first meeting in Lande’s seminal San Francisco Bay Area band, Rubisa Patrol. Their music, both composed and improvised, is intimate and immediate, drawing on elements of jazz and contemporary classical genres. Their improvisations are compositional in their clarity and precision, tightly constructed works that include gorgeous melodies, spicy dissonances and a colorful harmonic palette. Lande and Miller draw inspiration from a wide variety of influences from Bach to Schumann and Debussy, from Monk to Coltrane and Cage.
Peter Barshay is a veteran bassist who has established a strong reputation over the years from his sideman work on both the New York City and Bay Area jazz scenes.
Dillon Vado is a drummer and vibraphonist who plays music that is an honest representation of a broad range of influences. Dillon is known for making music that is dynamic and complex but memorable and relatable. As comfortable laying down Brazilian grooves on a drum set as he is improvising with poets and dancers on vibraphone, Dillon can be found playing vibes with many of his own projects, including The Table Trio and Heart Matter with Amy D. and drumming/composing for Never Weather, who released their debut album, Blissonance, on Ridgeway Records in 2020.
