Most of us are familiar with journaling but have you ever heard of Art Journaling?
Art Journaling can elevate your daily journaling practice by incorporating intentional, creative self-expression to your practice. It’s so fun to do and makes a memorable visual diary! Use art journaling for everything from making lists, affirmations, gratitudes, even use as a travel journal. It’s applications and adventure are endless! Anyone can learn how to do this regardless of whether you think you are a creative person or not. (psst - you are.)
Join us for a creative morning of Art Journaling at Inner Haven. In this fun and freeing gathering, we will:
-Learn about art journaling - what is it and how you can use it in your life
-Gain confidence in yourself and your creativity
-Elevate your existing journaling practice
-Discover what materials you love to use
Use your personal stash of images, words, colors, letters, thoughts and feelings to create pages in your journal that are meaningful to YOU
-A journal can be an inviting place to play, to loosen up, not worry about the outcome, and not focus on finished/perfect work.
-Working in an art journal is a form of creative self-expression that Michelle finds energizing because there are no defined rules.
-An art journal is an invitation to build on your journaling practice to discover (rediscover, reboot, rekindle) the joy of creating just for the sake of creating.
-An art journal is a dedicated space for playful explorations and experiments that will fuel your creativity. You can start a journal for any purpose or project and work in a bunch at once.
-An Art Journal is a space where you can express yourself, figure things out, weigh pros & cons, make lists & brainstorm.

Other useful ways to use an art journal - clarify a decision, get through a difficult phase in your life, find solace while you are ill or injured; document what you are thinking & feeling. This may be a valuable resource as you look back in the years ahead.

Please plan to bring:

-A Journal - There are no rules as to what kind of journal, the only thing is you’ll want to make sure the paper is relatively hearty as you will be using glue and semi-wet materials on your pages. Consider a journal with mixed media paper, drawing paper, or watercolor paper; I have used composition notebooks and glued pages together to make them stronger…. BUT this is YOUR journal so you may choose what speaks to you!

- Found papers, ephemera, magazine images, words, photographs, etc that have meaning to you - watercolors, gouache, colored pencils, pens, brushes, crayons, etc. *I will have some materials available to you as well but if you have some favorites, please bring them - you are exploring and creating your own unique style so remember, there are NO RULES!

-More IDEAS:
Things to collect for your journal: Ticket stubs, museum maps, pages from old textbooks, receipts, product packaging, clothing labels, photographs, vintage postcards, lottery tickets, polaroid photos, postage stamps, raffle tickets, hand-written lists, old greeting cards, subway maps, airline tickets, event announcements, advertisements, maps, ribbon, fabric, tarot cards, and images cut from magazines.

*Michelle will have some ephemera and supplies as well that you are welcome to sift through and use and will have some prompts for you OR you are welcome to journal about whatever might be on your mind or in your heart.
