About the Programme
This workshop is all about inherited wisdom - the useful and illuminating things you have learnt from other people - that deserve to be shared. Facilitated by artist Natalia Tan, you will dive deep into your memory, pick one story to tell, and collaborate to express it through micro art and massive art. The pieces created will form part of a larger artwork and be displayed in our upcoming exhibition, celebrating connection, continuity, and collective memory.
About the artist
Natalia Tan is a textile and community artist, educatory, and co-founder of the Singapore Eco Arts Festival. She studied contemporary weaving in Japan between 2014 and 2019, and was selected for a scholarship and weaving residency in Osaka to further her exploration of Saori weaving in 2019.
An active advocate of sustainability and socially-engaged artmaking, she weaves and co-creates with people using salvaged waste materials and found objects. In her art facilitation practice, she guides participants to gather inspiration from their personal histories and desires to tell stories through textile art.
About CANVAS/S: Tales as New as Time
Take a fresh look at an old tale with our exhibition series CANVAS/S: Tales as New as Time. With art installations that respond to the story of “The Two Widows” as depicted in Singapore Children’s Favourite Stories, come experience the exhibition happening at Jurong Regional Library.
Each iteration of CANVAS/S is proudly helmed by local artists or collectives. At the exhibition, get up close and personal with the artworks and discover more about the techniques and thought process behind the art. Looking for a deeper experience? Sign up for the various engagement activities and exhibition tours led by the artists themselves!
