About this Event

ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for a thought-provoking discussion with visiting artist Dina Yakerson as we explore how Israeli art responds to the ongoing war in the Middle East and how artistic expression emerges in times of crisis.

This talk will delve into the long history of artworks created in response to war, violence, and political upheaval. By examining works by influential artists such as Pablo Picasso, Francisco Goya, and others, we will reflect on how these images have shaped public perception of historical events and the vital role art plays in society.

We will also examine contemporary Israeli artworks created in the aftermath of the October 7th events, highlighting current artistic and cultural initiatives born in a time of war. Through these examples, we will ask critical questions about the role of art today—how it engages with political realities, personal tragedies, and collective memory.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Dina Yakerson (b. 1983, Russia) is a visual artist, curator at the Ramat Gan Museum of Art, art teacher, and lecturer currently based in Tel Aviv. She has delivered numerous lectures on art and culture in Israel and the United States, including at the 92NY Center in New York, Congregation Kol Ami of Westchester, and the New Rochelle Synagogue (2019).

In this upcoming lecture, Yakerson will also draw from her personal experience as an artist navigating times of crisis, exploring how current events shape creative processes.

In March 2025, Dina Yakerson has been invited to participate in the Chalk Hill Artist Residency in Sonoma Valley, California.
