“Bob Marley: One Love”, released last year, is a biopic directed by Reinaldo Marcus Greene. It tells Bob’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) story, staying close to reality, warts and all, from the time he was a boy until his death of melanoma on May 11, 1981, albeit his childhood as flashbacks. His wife Rita is played by Lashana Lynch, and many of the original Wailers are portrayed in the film, in minor roles. The music is great. Some of the songs are sung by Kingsley himself. The film was approved by the Marley family, with Ziggy (who performs Jamming in the picture) and Rita being producers. The movie won the BET Award for Best Movie, was nominated for four Black Reel Awards and six NAACP Image Awards. Paul Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder, and host a post-viewing discussion.
Fee: $10 at the door. Beer and wine available for purchase.
