Join Dr. Kymberly S. Newberry for this one-part class that explores "Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys" through the lens of collecting as an act of cultural liberation and creative vision. The Deans, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, have built a collection that celebrates legacy and the living power of Black contemporary art. Their collection of art reframes what it means to build power through presence, vision, and care. The class includes an overview of select works and brief videotaped commentary from the Deans on their collecting philosophy. We will conclude in the gallery, engaging directly with the art and ideas that define these contemporary giants.
