"Illustrated Chinese Books and their Publics at Home and Abroad"
The period from the late sixteenth through seventeenth centuries is often called the "golden age" of illustration in woodblock-printed Chinese books. During this time, both the numbers and variety of illustrated publications dramatically increased, reaching wider and more diverse audiences than ever before. This lecture by Julia K. Murray, Emeritus Professor in Chinese Art, will explore visually appealing examples from a range of genres.
