We will try to reserve a dedicated area on the campsite so we can all be together.

Put up tents on arrival.

We will provide more details of the arrangements once you have booked and closer to the time. You need to bring your own tent, sleeping bag and suitable clothes, food, drinks and snacks.

For those open water swimmers, the campsite is right next to the lake which is perfect for this activity and is allowed.

Day One: Art Hike 61 (A) – Side Farm Campsite to Howtown

Distance: 6 Miles or 10K

Grade: Moderate

Time: 10:00am for a 10:15am start

Brief description of Saturdays hike

This is a low-level and undulating hike with the lake to the left of us and the hills to the right with some amazing views of the landscape surrounding us.

Walking on a well maintained footpath through both woodland and moorland we will stop at a number of choice locations to take in the scenery and atmosphere of the area.

There are a few places where we are close to the waters edge should you like to rest your feet and have a paddle.

On reaching Howtown we will call in for some refreshment at a local establishment before catching the one-way Steamer Ferry across the Lake: a great way to get a different perspective of the landscape.

We arrive at Glenridding where you can head back to the campsite, explore the town or grab a meal in one of the pubs or restaurants.

Evening:

Chill out round a fire, chat and laugh (but only if you want to)

Day Two: Art Hike 61 (B) – Aira Force Waterfalls

Distance: 5 Miles or 8K

Grade: Easy

Time: Start at 10.30 and aim to around finish 2:30. As we expect most people to be travelling a distance, we plan to finish a bit earlier than usual.

After breakfast a freshen up and packing up our camping gear, you might have a little time to have a swim in the lake or explore the local area a bit more before we start our second venture.

Brief description of Sundays Hike:

Taking a short car journey we will park up at the Aira Force National Trust car park (fee needed).

There are both toilets and a small place for refreshments and some lovely sitting areas before we set off and on-route.

This is a beautiful spot with lots of intertwining routes that give you amazing view of these large, powerful and majestic waterfalls. We can either walk this as a group or groups, or individually, whatever feels best for you. I would encourage all of us to create some artworks or sketches of this area, I found it very inspiring.

Again, these are very well maintained pathways, however it can be quite steep in places, but the shade of the woodland is very welcoming.

We will meet back at the “refreshment” area around 1pm for a drink and a chat, talking about what we have seen, maybe sharing our creations before heading off home after what promises to be a lovely weekend.

What to wear: We’re hoping for nice weather, however be prepared, it could be unsettled and the Lakes can be very changeable: Please bring Suitable clothes. We would recommend that you bring waterproofs, and warm clothes (hat, scarf, gloves) if the weather is poor. Sturdy footwear is essential. If you are responsible for others, please ensure that they are suitably dressed.

What to bring: You need to bring your own tent, sleeping bag, washbag and suitable clothes, food, drinks, snacks and money.

Please note: You will be solely responsible for your own safety and transport arrangements. We accept no responsibility for any loss, injury or illness as a result of joining the hike. Robin is trained in first aid and will carry a first aid kit.

We look forward to seeing you there
