About this Event
Explore the basics of nerikomi, a Japanese technique that layers colored clay into striking patterns. In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll use simple slab-building methods to create a small patterned dish or tile. No experience needed—just come curious and ready to play with color and form!
Clay on First has generously donated kiln firing services to turn your work into a lasting object for your home. Fired pieces will be ready 4-6 weeks after the workshop.
**Please wear dark clothing you don’t mind getting stained. We’ll be using iron-rich clays that can permanently mark lighter fabrics. Aprons are helpful but totally optional.
Compound’s Art For All is a series of hands-on workshops that teach various artistic mediums and encourages a new way of making art that’s fun and engaging for the whole family. Participants will be able to learn drawing, collage, painting, performance, sculpture, ceramics, music-making, and much more.
Workshops are free and open to all thanks to this year’s sponsor, The Port of Long Beach, and a donation by The Rudolph J. and Daphne A. Munzer Foundation.
