Art Explorers (Ages 5–9)
Creative Adventures for Curious Kids!
Class Experience:
Art Explorers is a joyful, hands-on art class designed for early elementary artists and homeschool families. This process-based program encourages children to explore, experiment, and express themselves through art—without the pressure of perfection. Each week, young artists will dive into new materials, creative techniques, and inspiring artist studies, building confidence while having fun!
While each class stands on its own, we encourage full-semester enrollment for the richest experience. The session ends with a mini art exhibit where students proudly display their creations for family and friends!
Week 1: Life-Size Self-Portraits- Kick off the session with bold, full-body portraits that celebrate each artist’s unique identity.
Week 2: Skewer Sculptures- Explore balance, structure, and shape while building abstract sculptures using skewers and connectors.
Week 3: Alma Thomas Artist Study- Create vibrant, patterned paintings inspired by the joyful style of Alma Thomas.
Week 4: Painting Shadows- Capture the magic of light and form by tracing and painting dynamic shadow shapes.
Week 5: Foam Block Printmaking- Learn the basics of printmaking by designing and stamping your own repeating patterns.
Week 6: Pressed Flower Clay Trinkets- Combine nature and sculpture while pressing real flowers into clay to make keepsake dishes or pendants.
Week 7: Pattern Paper Sculptures- Fold, twist, and shape colorful patterned paper into whimsical standing sculptures.
Week 8: Splatter Paint Pumpkins- Celebrate fall with a Jackson Pollock-inspired twist—bold, messy, and fun!
Week 9: Art Show Prep + Collaborative Art Piece- Curate favorite pieces for the community art show and work together on a final group masterpiece!
*Art Show will be open to the public the week of October 19th**
