Art Encounter: Log Mark Print LabSaturday, October 25
Free, Drop-in 1:00-4:00 pm
Explore Michigan’s logging era with Castle Museum, then use simple printmaking tools to carve, stamp, and press your own personal log mark!
Log marks were symbols once used by Michigan logging companies to identify their logs as they floated downriver to the sawmills. Each company had its own unique mark, stamped into the ends of cut logs, like a forest fingerprint. Come learn more about this history and get creative with making your own log mark at SAM.
This Art Encounter is inspired by two printmaking exhibitions opening September 11: On Press: Prints for Non-Profits and On Press: Women Printmakers of the Early 20th Century and is in collaboration with the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History.
