Meet us at the New Farm Cinemas, the starting point for a newly curated Art Deco 'Twilight' Walking Tour.
Step back in time to learn about New Farm and Fortitude Valley's glamorous and commercial past.
Hear the stories of its 1920's Pictures Theatres. Its colourful high society figures (politicians and doctors, bookies and artists and the conviction of the British aristocratic brothers). Life in 1930's New Farm's trendy Art Deco Flats/ Homes was interesting.
We will continue onto the Valley's inter-war architecture...the social history of Brisbane's Department Stores: T.C. Beirne's, and the Art Deco icon - McWhirters .
The influx of Italian and Greek migrants forever changed Brisbane's inner city suburbs. New Farm and Fortitude Valley evolved into a bustling Italian shopping Centre with delicatessens, bakeries, fruit shops and a fashion atelier workshop. Locals were among the first to be introduced to Italian Pasta, Pizza and Expresso Coffee.
