About this Event
During the 1920/30's - Art Deco concepts transformed Brisbane's inner city suburbs.
New Farm's grand estates were slowing being subdivided. Art Deco flats replaced colonial homes. Their gardens, private tennis and croquet courts disappeared.
Join 'Friends of Art Deco'for a 2 hour curated Tour of some of New Farm's heritage gems.
This Tour will focus on the work of a number of Brisbane's 1920/30's architects including:-Eric Percival Trewern; Charles H Griffin; George Thornhill Campbell-Wilson and the accalimed architectural firm - Chambers & Ford.
Their architectural designs for homes and flats were influenced by Spanish Mission; Californian Bungalow; Mediterranean and English Revival styles.
The starting point for this Tour is the Australian Heritage listed: Coronet Court.
Proceeding along Oxlade Drive to Moray Street, we will view the iconic Homes and Flats including: Santa Barbara.
Designed by the acclaimed Trewern, when completed in 1930, this residence was the city's most expensive build. Santa Barbara is considered to be the finest example of 'Spanish Mission' design in Brisbane.
The Tour concludes with a visit to Chambers & Ford designed: Elron Court.
