Admire some stylish 1930s buildings in N4 and N5 to see how the innovative architecture of the interwar era still endures today
About this Event

On this walking tour we'll look at some interwar buildings and see how the clean lines and design devices of the Art Deco era have continued to inspire architects and designers.

You'll see a cross-section of architectural styles. Obviously, we'll visit Arsenal FC's iconic Highbury ground, but we'll also look at and talk about gorgeous places of entertainment as well as companies that strived to keep up with the zeitgeist, well-proportioned residential properties and a renovation scheme that was started but never completed.

Along the route you'll hear about typography and letterform, and how the design ethos of this era has endured im many ways through subsequent decades. We'll also take a peek at some Jazz Age interiors.

Customer feedback: "Having attended many games at Highbury I was surprised how I'd never noticed the actual buildings. I was obviously more into football than architecture back then!" / "Many thanks Jane, I loved this walk and I will join you again soon for more of the same" / "It was really good to see this area of London with fresh eyes. You showed me and mum so many things we had not seen before" / "OMG, the Rainbow/Astoria! It was fab to return to the places of my youth.." / "Thanks for opening my eyes Jane" / "My favourite guide" / "You introduced us to some beautiful buildings" / More feedback here

My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself – in fact, the research never ends. The walks and talks I offer are all on subjects that intrigue me and each one highlights a different facet of my personality. I am particularly interested in the architecture of our ever-changing streets and the little details on and above them. For more information, please visit www.janeslondonwalks.com
