Art Class and Social- Candlelight Blind Contour Drawing

Class will be held at my favorite Fort Lauderdale Exercise Studio Funk and Flow. The vibes and people in this place are unbeatable and I'd love to share it's awesomeness with you!

This session is all about learning to trust your hand and eye when you create art!

We will be doing blind contour drawings. A contour drawing is a line drawing that outlines a subject without shading or modeling, resulting in a two-dimensional figure. Blind Contour drawings are exactly what they sound like! You won't be allowed to look at what you are drawing till the end... You are only allowed to look at the subject! To help keep you from cheating... the event will be lit by candles so you can only see the subject! The most wonderful part of this type of drawing is that your hand will intuitively know what to do and your drawing will end up being a very abstracted but recognizable version of your favorite parts of the subject. This will help you build confidence in your drawing skills and create super fun pieces of art. I'll explain more during the lesson but trust me you'll love doing this!

Meant as an alternative for adults who are tired of going to bars and clubs, this class is part of an ongoing series of Watercolor/ Art socials where adults, young and old can get together to do art. Every class offers a wholesome, peaceful atmosphere where you can expect good people, yummy snacks, and an escape from the day-to-day stress of life. Sessions will each have a different art lesson and a suggested painting/ drawing subject but you are always welcome to free draw if you don't vibe with the theme that day!

Stephanie LaRusso, a local Fort Lauderdale artist, will guide you through painting the selected subject and share with you the different techniques that she uses in her paintings. This will be a very free-flowing group art session where you can choose to follow along with her or work all on your own.

While you are welcome to bring your own art supplies, you only need to bring yourself. All different types of paper, watercolor paints, pens, pencils, and brushes will be provided as well as tables, drawing boards, and chairs. If you have a tabletop easel or want to bring your own paper, please feel free.

All skill levels are welcome and encouraged! Templates will be provided for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable free drawing but you will be encouraged to try to do it all on your own!

Adults and teenagers with their parents are welcome. Children however are not allowed... not because we don't love them... but because there are already so many kid's classes out there and adults deserve to have some classes of their own!

While you will surely go home with a new beautiful art piece at the end of the night, the real purpose of this event is to get together with others who share our passion for positive vibes, art and nature.
