In partnership with the University of Utah Department of Film and Media Arts, the UMFA will host a special screening of "Paprika" (2006), the visually stunning and critically acclaimed animated film by director Satoshi Kon.
Prepare to enter the realm of fantasy and imagination—where reality and dreams collide in a kaleidoscopic mindscape of sheer visual genius. Paprika tells the story of a revolutionary machine that allows scientists to enter and record people’s dreams. When the device is stolen, a fearless detective and a brilliant therapist team up to retrieve it before it falls into the hands of a dangerous “dream terrorist.”
Following the screening, join us for a post-film discussion with special guest Gretchen Jude, Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media Arts at the University of Utah, as we explore the film’s themes, artistic impact, and enduring legacy in the world of animation and science fiction.
"Paprika" is rated R. This film contains mature themes. Viewer discretion is advised.
