Selling art is a difficult task. Trying to figure out the logistics of running an art business while also figuring out how to sell your art is nearly impossible. Intended for artists at all levels this class will cover aspects of art business that aren’t covered in art school like documentation storage framing transport and shipping. The goal of this class is to provide students with solutions for these potentially crippling topics at various different price levels and provide them with a solid foundation to build their art practice.
Syllabus: For 4-week class
Week 1: Archival Storage: Storage solutions for works on paper and canvas
Week 2: Shipping Artwork: Acrylic vs Glass cutting and making boxes for shipping
Week 3: Documentation: Lighting and Photoshop
Week 4: Framing: Matting artwork and uses for different price points of frames
Cost:
Without frame: $160 + $20 paid directly to the instructor for materials
For class that includes a maple frame + $140 paid to the Washington Print foundation during the first class.
For class that includes a whitewashed maple frame + $240 paid to the Washington Print foundation during the first class.
For class that includes a walnut frame + $290 paid to the Washington Print foundation during the first class.
Note: All frames will come with maple splines. If you would like any other type of wood such as a maple frame with a walnut spline don’t hesitate to ask!
Required supplies:
All materials will be provided to artists throughout the class. Artists are encouraged to bring in their artwork so the folders boxes mats and photos they will be making throughout the class will custom fit their artwork. If artists do not have artwork demo materials will be provided for students.
Adobe photoshop subscription is not required but highly recommended for week 3 when students will be taking photos of their artwork and learning how to edit them for web presentations.
