About this Event
Giorgio Vasari is best known for writing Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects around 1550. The book is available in full through archive.org and other open sources and in libraries. Every chapter in the book explores the life of a different artist. Browse the table of content to choose one or a few of the artists that interest you, then tell us what Vasari wrote about them and (if it agrees with other sources that you know of!)
EXTRA CREDIT: read The Collector of Lives: Giorgio Vasari and the Invention of Art by Ingrid Rowland and Noah Charney. The introduction has an overview of Vasari's book and advice on how to read it.
Join us for an online discussion of Giorgio Vasari and the Renaissance artists he immortalized in his famous biographical anthology. You will receive a Zoom link before the meeting begins.
