About Virginia Shearer
Virginia Shearer joined the Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design in August 2021. As executive director, she leads an ever-growing expansion of exhibitions, programming, and community engagement activities. She has devoted her 26 years of museum leadership to catalyzing meaningful connections with art and artists, for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience with the arts. At Sarasota Art Museum, she leverages the talents of national and international artists and curators, and exhibition and education teams, to continue this work creating an innovative array of programming for all visitors – students, families, and lifelong learners, from the arts-curious to arts-lovers. Prior to Sarasota Art Museum, Shearer worked at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as the Eleanor McDonald Storza director of education and as associate director of education. Shearer participated in the Getty Museum Leadership Institute at CGU in 2014 and the Getty’s Next Gen Executive Leadership Program in 2012. Shearer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Florida State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Museum Education from The George Washington University.
