About this Event
In collaboration with the Imperial War Museum, we are pleased to welcome Suzanne Bardgett, author of "The Air War in Paintings", and Claire Brenard, author of "Visions of War" here to Hatchards this evening to discuss paintings made in times of war past, present and global.
The Air War in Paintings by Suzanne Bardgett discusses how, during the Second World War, the wartime government commissioned artists to document the air war as it was in progress, giving them access to airfields, factories and aircrew who had just returned from missions. The resulting thoughtful and expressive works went on display in the National Gallery – an aid to maintaining public morale.
Visions of War – Art of the Imperial War Museumsby Claire Brenard showcases the full breadth of IWM’s worldclass art collection, charting the engagement between artists, art movements and a century-plus of conflict since 1914. Artists featured include Paul Nash, C R W Nevinson, Anna Airy, Walter Sickert, Laura Knight, Henry Moore, Evelyn Dunbar, Peter Kennard, Gilbert & George, Steve McQueen and Rosalind Nashashibi.
Do please join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening of conversation!
Tickets include £5 off the purchase of either book this evening.
