We will begin our first Art and Country session at Galkangu by exploring a selection of First Nations works from Bendigo Art Gallery’s Collection, featured in the recent exhibition Living Connections: Reflections on Care, Kinship, and Country. This collection of contemporary paintings by artists from across Australia, including First Nations artists and artists from Central Victoria. It speaks to cultural knowledge, landforms, family, and the rhythms of daily life.
After taking time to observe, discuss, and reflect, we’ll move into a gentle, play-based drawing session. Using guided, mindful techniques and pre-marked papers, you’ll respond to existing lines and textures, allowing a sense of place or theme to emerge through simple mark-making, layering, and quiet reflection.
