Maya de Forest will present the second session of a 4-part series exploring caregiving, traditionally undertaken by women, and its impact on artists’ practices. Each session will feature a formal lecture by a caregiver-artist and a focussed discussion. The intention is to provide a space for rigorous discussion regarding the intersections between art and caregiving.
Maya de Forest: Elder Care and Art
Maya de Forest is a multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary artist. While photography and books have been central to much of her work, de Forest is creating a multi-media installation centred on her late father’s dementia and a personal archive, informed by years of caring for both of her parents. Her photographs have been exhibited in Canada, the U.S. and abroad, and her self-published book I love here now has been distributed and sold internationally.
MAWA has also posted a survey asking caregivers about the barriers to their participation and what would alleviate them. (If you cannot attend, find the survey at forms.gle/toZeJLYGZT6LgXQ47 to have your voice heard.)
If your attendance involves child- or elder-care costs, MAWA will reimburse you upon request.
