The first Mental Health Research Series talk of Fall 2025 is on Wednesday October 1st with a talk from Dr. Tara Marshall. Dr. Marshall's talk is hosted by the Centre for Advanced Research on Mental Health & Society (ARMS)!
Doors open at 1:00 pm, and the talk will begin at 1:15 pm in L.R. Wilson Room 1003 (Community Room). Light refreshments will be served.
Dr. Tara Marshall will be presenting: Helping or Hurting? The impact of social media on mental health and well-being.
On October 1st, at 1:15 pm EST, Dr. Marshall's talk will discuss how social media use impacts well-being. It draws on the Active-Passive Model of Social Media Use to support her findings.
Tara Marshall is the Director of the Social Psychology Program and an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Aging & Society. She completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Toronto and went on to complete postdocs at the University of Tokyo and Western University before beginning her career in the Department of Psychology at Brunel University of London. She began working at McMaster in 2018. Currently, her research focuses on the intersecting influences of social media use, relationships, and culture on mental health and well-being.
