“It was wonderfully, wonderfully done!” (Trooper Lawrence Burn, 13th/18th Hussars, 1924-2023).
Churchill said that victory at El Alamein in November 1942 was not the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning. And there was indeed a long way to go before the end really began. But when and how did the beginning actually begin?
Speaker: Brigadier (retd) Allan Mallinson, late The Light Dragoons, military obituarist for The Times, author of the Matthew Hervey series of novels and of military history, including “The Making of the British Army”, “Too Important for the Generals”, “The Shape of Battle”.
