Arjun Raina's 'The House of a Great Victorian Playwright' will be performed at the Cracked Actors Theatre (CAT) for Summer Reading 2023.Mr. Brandon Smith lives with his married partner Mr. Arthur Hall. To his home, on a writer’s residency, is invited Mr. Hari Gunesekhara, to collaborate on a new play he is writing on the Mahabharata.
Contrary to Mr.Smith’s expectations, instead of creating text around this ancient epic, Mr. Gunesekhara is more interested in what he observes happening in Mr. Smith and Mr. Hall’s home.
Suspicious of Mr. Gunesekhara’s intentions, Mr.Smith pries into his writing and what he discovers sends him into a rage.
Arjun Raina is an Independent Artist, Contemporary Playwright, Performer, Kathakali Dancer and Academic. He holds a PhD from Flinders University researching the teaching of Kathakali in Australia (2014-2018). He has written a Monograph Teaching Kathakali in Australia: Mirroring the Master (2020) Routledge: U.K. Professor Contemporary Acting at the Ambedkar University and The National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi India (2018-2020). At NSD he taught acting to a generation of students now leading actors on stage and cinema in India (1990-2000). He wrote The Magic Hour ( Kathakali and Shakespeare ) which was recognised as a significant work of interculturalism.
