This recital weaves together a rich tapestry of romantic imagination and emotional vulnerability. It opens with André Previn’s “I Want Magic,” a raw plea for beauty and illusion, and moves through Joaquín Turina’s Poema en forma de canciones, a vivid Spanish song cycle exploring love and loss. The program then shifts into lush French and Romantic sound worlds with works by Duparc and Liszt. Strauss’s Vier Lieder offers a sweeping emotional arc, while Lori Laitman’s Sunflowers song cycle brings the vivid lyricism of Mary Oliver’s poetry to life, Ariana’s favorite poet. A special feature of the program is Thoughts on a Cold Sunday in Fairbanks, composed by Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival legend Terese Kaptur. This reflective and intimate setting honors both place and memory. Join us for an evening of imagination, beauty, and nostalgic reflection.This recital will be accompanied by Dr. Josh Vigran.
