Arefin was first elected to the Richardson City Council in 2021, and has served as Mayor Pro Tem during the 2023-2025 term. Prior to his elected service, he was appointed to the Richardson Zoning Board of Adjustments, Complete Census Committee, Building & Standard Commission. Arefin was actively involved with the Highland Terrace Neighborhood Association and graduated from Leadership North Texas, Leadership Richardson, Richardson Citizen Police Academy and was the former President of IANT. Arefin has a Masters in Civil Engineering, a Licensed Professional Engineer, certified floodplain manager and is a local small engineering business owner.
