About this Event

Are wild animals the unsung heroes of climate action?

Come and join IFAW and friends for an exciting event where we will celebrate the incredible power of wild animals to help humanity combat climate change!

Discover how ? elephants and ? whales, ? bison and ? wolves, ? sea otters, ? beavers and other amazing creatures contribute to climate mitigation, and learn what we can do to help them to through .

Hear how conservationists are working to leverage wildlife conservation and habitat restoration to super-charge climate change mitigation and adaptation, in Africa, the USA and globally; and learn how investors and finance institutions are developing innovative mechanisms to fund positive outcomes for animals, people and the climate.

Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to learn and be inspired!

Event description

This event will explore the importance of protecting, restoring and effectively managing wildlife populations and their habitats as natural climate solutions that deliver multiple co-benefits for nature and the climate, vulnerable communities and national economies.

The scientific evidence is increasingly clear - wild animals play a critical but underappreciated role in natural carbon sequestration. We can no longer focus only on trees and plants when designing carbon projects - we must take animals into account!

Speakers will present the most recent evidence on the contribution that wild animal populations make to climate mitigation by Animating the Carbon Cycle (ACC), and will explore how this can be maximised to help countries deliver on the targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework and on the goals of the Paris Agreement.

We will also explore the value of wildlife conservation for supporting climate resilience and adaptation in local communities and national economies, by delivering climate resilient ecosystem services, building climate resilient livelihoods and local economies, and contributing to low-carbon, climate resilient green growth.

By examining practical examples and visionary models, the event will consider a range of innovative approaches for delivering locally led, wildlife centred, landscape-based approaches that deliver positive benefits for nature, climate and people, including investors, and how we can mobilise the finance that is needed to deliver these solutions at scale, using innovative financing mechanisms.
