Join The Symposium Club for an evening discussion on “Are Sports the New Religion?”
Presented by Terry Shoemaker, PhD, Associate Teaching Professor at Arizona State University and author of Religions and Sports: The Basics. Terry co-edits the International Journal of Sport and Religion, co-directs Sports at the ASU Humanities Institute, and chairs the Religion, Sport, Play unit at the American Academy of Religion.
The night is designed as a three-part talk experience, with guided table discussions between each chapter, so you can engage with the ideas and connect with the people around you.
Location: Pinnacle Brewing Company (North Scottsdale)
Pinnacle Brewing Company is an award-winning craft brewery, recently named 2025 Brewery of the Year at the Arizona Craft Beer Awards. Their beers have earned national recognition too, including Beer of the Year for their Novo 11° Czech Dark Lager. We’ll be gathering in their polished taproom for an evening of great pours and great conversation. Food will be available for purchase on-site via a food truck.
