The WGPR Historical Society is celebrating our Black History Month with an event at the William V. Banks broadcast Museum on Saturday February 22, 2025, at 5 pm. This event for a mature audience will feature music, thoughtful conversation, entertainment and refreshments.

Detroit DJ Jackie Respress kicks off the program with her unique mixes followed by a live performance by vocalist Stanley Johnson. A thought-provoking panel discussion; “The State of Journalism in Detroit – Are People of Color Being Equitably Served by the Media?” will be led by members of the Detroit Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. Dr. Erin Perry editor at Outlier Media will serve as moderator of an all-star panel of Detroit’s top journalists, news reporters and news managers. Also, the African American experience in Detroit will be presented by Detroit’s official historian Mr. Jamon Jordon.
