About this Event
Archiving Land, Love & Loss in Black LA is a two-part story circle series rooted in Black memory, place, and lived experience.
Presented by We Love Leimert, the Black Land Loss Narrative Archive Project, and UCLA, these gatherings invite Black Angelenos to share personal stories about land, home, love, loss, displacement, and belonging.
In a story circle, participants are invited—one by one—to tell a story from their own life in response to a shared prompt. There is no debate, discussion, or feedback. Each person speaks, each story is witnessed, and the circle holds the collective memory.
With participant consent, stories shared during these sessions will contribute to:
- the We Love Leimert Community Archive, preserving neighborhood memory and cultural life
- the Black Land Loss Narrative Archive Project, documenting the lived impacts of land loss and displacement
- Black Geographies research at UCLA, which studies how Black people experience, shape, and remember place
No preparation is required. Participants may attend one or both sessions. This is a listening-centered space grounded in respect, care, and consent.
