Our Archives on Show events are a chance for us to show you the sheer range of material we hold at LMA. This month, bridges!
In these sessions we will present a display of material for you to browse at your own pace, where staff will be on hand to answer questions. Whether you are new to archives and curious to see what we hold, or you are an experienced researcher that wants to learn more these relaxed events offer a chance for you to explore our collections by theme and format.
Archives on Show: The City of London’s Bridges
Did you know that, at no cost to the taxpayer, City Bridge Foundation maintains and supports London Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark Bridge, Tower Bridge and Millennium Bridge? As a result, London Metropolitan Archives holds records relating to the City’s bridges that date back to the Middle Ages.
This session will offer you the chance to explore the rich collection of archives including charters, ancient deeds, plans, images, accounts, and other documents that trace the development of the City’s bridges from the late 12th century onwards. There will also be a chance to chat to staff who are working with City Bridge Foundation to open up these records to researchers.
